Disney Cruise

I'm really behind in our blog so I thought I would just start from where we are right now. In January, we went on cruise with the Lewis Family to the Mexican Riveria. Last minute, Matt couldn't go because his dad was in the hospital; however, Matt still wanted Luke and I still to go on the cruise.

So highlights of the cruise:

- The boardwalk at Puera Vallarta (sand sculptures and rock art)

- The city cathedral

- Towel animals that awaited us every night

- Views of Cabo San Lucas (we were sick so we were confined to the boat.)

OK, so I know that it has been awhile since I've blogged. I couldn't find the USB cable for our camera and I hate blogging without pictures. So here's a quick snapshot of our summer:

Beach camping at Doheney Beach. It rained on us. Luke didn't sleep. Hopefully, our next camping trip will be better.

Beach camping at Point Mugu. Absolutely beautiful! We saw dolphins, seals, & pelicans. It was a rough start getting there. Matt's truck gave out. Luke was incredibly hyper (he wouldn't take a nap.) Fortunately, he did sleep that night. We are definitely coming back next year. We can't wait.

Luke was having fun in the office the other day. He was hillarious. Luke would put the phone right up to his ear and starting babbling like he was talking on it. I tried getting a picture of it and this was the longest he would hold still to take it.

Luke loves to help especially when I'm unloading the dishwasher. He will place all of the clean silverware and dump it into the silverware drawer. If you aren't paying attention, he also put dirty silverware in the drawer while you are trying to load the dishwasher.

For Easter, Marcie, Sam, and Lil' Patton came to visit us for the holiday weekend. Saturday, Marcie and I hid Easter eggs around the yard for the boys. Even Patton got in the fun! Luke was more interested in eating the first egg rather than finding any others.
The next day the Easter bunny stopped by. He even remembered our guests, Marcie, Sam, and Patton. Lots of fun and amazing memories were made.

Even before Luke was born, I couldn't wait to give him Mohawk. I have been waiting impatiently for his hair to be long enough. Finally it was long enough. I had a lot of fun doing it. Unfortunately, later that day he was kicked in the face and got a nice shiner. Poor Kid! It didn't really faze him.

Can you believe that this guy is 16 months? We can't. He is into many things. He loves rocks (you can always find one in his mouth) and digging around in the yard. If things are quiet in the house, you can find him playing in the cat box much to our dismay. He babbles a lot, but no real words right now. He loves to be read books. As soon as he is up in the morning, he runs straight over to his books to be read to. Luke's current favorites are : Elmo's Trick or Treat and I Love You Through and Through. He still loves his swing. If we go to the park, Luke only wants to spend his whole entire time in the swing.

Last week we had Matt's sister, Malinda and brother Wooky came to visit us. These things were on our checklist:

Needless to say, we were successful in checking everything off our list. Plus, we had fun spending time with Wooky before he left on his mission. We are going to miss him!

So what has Luke been up to? He loves to read and look at books. When he gets up in the morning, he'll bring me books to read him. Or he likes to sit on the floor and look at the pictures of the books.

He loves to run everywhere. He's into everything. A tornado seems to hit when ever he's around, but it adds to excitment to life. He's definitely a bundle of energy.

So two weeks ago, we went up to the High Desert to meet our new nephew Patton. We were wondering what Luke was going to be like around him. I was a little nervous that he would try and sit on him. He normally sits on kids that are younger than him. Instead he really wasn't interested in Patton even if we were holding him. The only time he became interested in Patton was when he was in his swing at Luke's level. Luke would go over to the swing smile and "talk" to him and then try to push Patton in his swing. It was really cute! Patton's so adorable and Marcie and Sam are great parents. It was sure fun to meet him and welcome to the family.

I'm really behind in my posts. Couple of weeks ago was Matt's birthday. I had to work that day so we decided that we would do a birthday lunch. Matt loves barbaque. We heard about this place called Phils barbaque in Point Loma. The barbaque was ok. Then later I made Matt his German chocolate birthday cake (I hate German Chocolate and never make Matt's cake. He normally does.) Matt was really excited to get his G-tab that he's been drooling over for months. Love that guy!

Valentine's Day

I used to detest Valentine's Day. My friends in college and I would celebrate "Puke Day." We would wear black, make puke day cards, and watch antilove movies. We had a blast! Then I got married and actually began to enjoy the holiday. This year was fun because of Luke. Matt found this amazing red stuffed monster. Luke loves it! He'll sit on it, bite, hug it, and lugg it around the house. It was a fun day! I'll have to get some pictures of Luke with his best friend.

Sunday night we got a phone call from Matt's nieces Tara and Faith. They were in town for a quick trip and wanted to visit. We made the journey to Oceanside (where they were staying) and played. We played at the beach (we had some amazing weather that day) and later the pool. Luke loved the squish beach sand. He wasn't a fan of the cold ocean though.

We were pretty hungry after playing at the beach and in the pool. There was this restaurant at the end of the Oceanside pier called Ruby's that we went to for dinner. My Butterfingers shake was to die for! I'm still drooling over that shake.

It was a quick visit, but we sure had a blast with Tara and Faith. We can't wait for them to come visit again.

Time to Party!

So last weekend, we threw Luke his birthday party. Although his birthday was the 30Th of last month, we thought that it would be easier to do it in January after the holidays. It was a small intimate affair with a few close friends and family, but it was such a blast! Luke couldn't get enough of the food. He was a cupcake thief. Don't set your cupcake down or else Luke would get it! He had so much fun playing with his friends & cousins, eating cupcakes, and playing with his toys that he conked right out for the night right after everyone left!

Here's a little bit more about Luke now that he's a ripe year old. Now that Luke has been walking the past 2 months, he now runs EVERYWHERE! He loves for us to chase him around the house. He is so curious and into everything. He loves to get into my kitchen cupboards, take all the zip lock bags out of the drawer, and scatter them across the kitchen floor. He loves his cat Gabby. He is getting pretty good about petting her gently. He is a talker. Luke's not quite saying words just baby talk. I was running today at the park and people were kept laughing as they saw us. As I was running down hill Luke was saying, "Whee!" Too funny! He's very social. Luke loves to talk and play with anyone who will give him attention. His smile warms our hearts! He definitely has enriched our lives.

Yup, it's true! Our little guy is officially one. (I'm really behind on my posts, so please bear with me.) So for his birthday we decided to go to the San Diego Zoo. We had such a blast! It was interesting to see the different sights, sounds, and animals that peaked his interest. He played at the kid's playground there, petted the animals at the petting zoo, and just enjoyed himself.

Later that night we celebrated with a cake. We thought that he would be tearing into the cake. Nope! He wanted nothing to do with it! Imagine our surprise! This little guy is normally into everything and eats just about anything. We figured out that he couldn't stand the texture of the frosting. Funny guy! He sure has made our lives interesting!

Since it turned out that I had Christmas off, we decided to go and spend it with Mike and Jen. We drove up Christmas Eve and spent it with them. Luke was spoiled rotten by his aunt, uncle, and cousins. He couldn't get enough attention! My favorite event of Christmas Eve when he found this Target basket. He had a blast being pushed around in it.

Sorry for the long absence. Life has been really crazy. So bear with me as I go back over the past 2 months.

All my siblings who are living in California decided to have Thanksgiving together. It was such a blast! The nieces and nephews had a great time playing together. We enjoyed some amazing food (Amanda's stuffing was to die for! Then there was Marcie's truffle . . sheer perfection!) We missed mom, dad, Jeremy and Valerie and hope that they'll be able to come next year.

10 months!

Can you believe that this cute guy is 10 months? Neither can we! He has grown so much in just the past month. He weighs 22 pounds and 30 inches long and into everything! One of his favorite things is to get into an drawer or cupboard and take everything out of it. Now that he's walking (yup, you read it right) there isn't anything that he won't get into. Plus, he's starting to climb (our life as we know it is over.)

Luke loves water. If he hears the water running in the bathroom, he comes crawling/walking at the speed of light. The next thing you know he's climbing into the bathtub. That boy loves to play with water!

Two weeks ago, I was having a itch to do something that felt like Fall. There really isn't much of a Fall here in San Diego. I thought it would be fun to go to a local pumpkin patch. Well, I was in luck! There was this amazing pumpkin patch called Oma's Pumpkin Patch here in San Diego! The cool part is that it is a working Dairy farm.

So Matt and I loaded Luke up and off we went. We went on a Hay ride, petted the farm animals, climbed the cotton seed mountain, and picked out 2 amazing pumpkins! What a day!

Papa Edgeworth (my dad) came last month for a quick seminar in San Diego. We picked him up from the airport and took him to our favorite Mexican restaurant Casa De Pico. We had fun catching up. Luke loved getting attention from Papa! There were a mariachi band walking around singing to the patrons. Luke was enthralled by them. The pictures we caught of it were priceless!

9 months!

It sure has been awhile since I posted. Our camera died and since I don't like blog post without pictures I waited until we replaced our camera.

Can you believe that our little man is 9 months?! I know I keep saying this, but where does the time go? He is growing so quickly and learning so much so fast that Matt and I are astounded at the things he's doing.

He's now pulling himself up on the furniture and walking along it. Every once and awhile he'll stand for a couple of seconds without holding on to anything. We know that he'll be walking soon.

He loves playing with the most random things. Lately, it's the broom. If you are using the broom, he'll follow you around trying to get it. When he finally gets the broom, he loves to move it around and play with the bristles.

He loves getting into everything! He's favorite thing is our cat, Gabby's food. The pictures speak for themselves. You look closely at his face you can see drops of Gabby's water on his face. Silly kid!

He is talking like crazy. His talking has just become more diverse. It's more grunts, screams, and any kind of sound he can make.

He loves food! He will eat anything. I mean anything! I think the only he hasn't like so far was onions, but they were uncooked (poor kid.)

He loves anyone who will give him attention. We were at Ihop one night. During the whole dinner, he was smiling, talking, and cooing at this cute 20 year old blond. Matt and I were a little worried that night that he's starting to flirt a little too young!

He has two teeth. We have had many sleepless painful nights waiting for them to break through. Now we think he's working on his top teeth. Here's a funny story. Someone recommended to me these teething tablets. So one day while we were stocking up on Tylenol, we grabbed some. It had in the disclaimer that it causes babies to become sleepy because the pain is relieved. Well, we had quite the opposite effect on Luke. He was the energizer bunny! We looked at the ingredients and it had caffeine in it! No wonder! Needless to say, we were afraid to use them again!

He still loves to cuddle especially if he is falling asleep. For the past 2 months, he wakes up at least once during that night. He loves it when Mommy or Daddy rocks and sings him back to sleep.

Papa & Nana Edgeworth came to visit the family for a work seminar. For Papa's birthday, we drove up to spend the day with him and Nana. We even crashed the seminar he was teaching. Of course, as soon as it started Luke started screaming and making his presence be known. After the seminar, we met the rest of the family at the Storybook Cafe at Disneyland for his birthday dinner. It was fun to see the rest of the family and share in Papa's birthday. Kyle even brought this amazingly yummy cake. What a great day!

Our little man is 8 months! He's about 22 lbs and 30 inches long. He's a crawling, pulling himself up on everything, and gabbing like crazy. He is working on a bottom tooth which is starting to break through (thank heavens! I can't wait for him to start to sleep better!) Eats anything! I mean anything! We've caught him eating Gabby's cat food and anything else he could get his hands on!

Hi everyone! Since Mommy is behind in blogging, I thought I would help out! I've been very busy growing in every way possible. I'm crawling all over the place (it's more of a scoot), but I can be really quick if there is something I want (like Gabby my cat.) I've actually gotten really good at feeding myself my baby puffs (I love those things.) I still love bath time. I love to lay on my stomach playing with my toys and splashing!
It's been hot in sunny San Diego so we have been spending as much time as possible in the pool. I haven't quite decided if I like the pool or not. I definitely like my bath better than the pool.

Home of Fried Fried & Fried

So Matt's & Luke's trip started a couple of days before mine. I had to stick around and work. Matt and Luke flew to Oklahoma for a couple days to spend some time with Matt's family. Then we met up in Arkansas to spend a week with Malinda celebrating her graduation from residency.

Malinda said that Arkansas was known for it's fried food, and boy was she right! We had hushpuppies, corn fritters, fried okra, fried catfish, fried sweet potato pie, fried green tomatoes, and even a fried twinkie! The food was great shown by 5 pounds we all gained!

We went to this rustic resturant that hoovered right over the bayou. It was built in 1910 and I thought we were going to plunge into the bayou at any moment. The food was amazing! Their big claim to fame was that it's one of Bill Clinton's favorite resturants in Arkansas.

We went to the museum of agriculture which was neat. We saw some indian mounds. There was this indian tribe that built these really huge mounds for ceremonies as well as using it to tell if it was the winter or summer solistice.

We fed turtles (which was one of my favorite things we did there),

did some shopping, and visited Hot Springs Arkansas (it used to be the popular spa hangout for the mobsters back in the 20's-30's.) It was such a fun trip, hot, but fun! Thanks Malinda for being such a great hostess!

Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted. Our camara has been on the fritz. I think blog posts without a picture are boring, so I've been waiting for it be fixed. Here's pictures of our trip to Arkansas for Malinda's graduation from residency. We were sure if I was going to be able to go, but the stars aligned at the last minute. We are so incredibly proud of Malinda and her achievements. Next stop, her new practice in family medicine! Yeah, Malinda!

Last weekend a co-worker threw a big barbecue party at his house. He lives out in the country with horses, geese, turkeys, llamas, donkeys, etc. You name it, he had it! Plus a really cool go-kart course (unfortunately, when we got there it was broken!) We had fun socializing and stuffing ourselves with amazing food. Luke had a blast interacting with the animals. What a fun day!

Yes, it's true! We bought a house! Finally! It's been a long (over a year), bumpy, frustrating and emotional journey which was all worth it in the end. Now if I could just wiggle my nose like Samantha from Bewitched and have everything all moved in for us. Oh well!

5 months

Seriously, where has the time gone?! I can't believe that Luke's already 5 months. He's grown so much in just 1 month! He's now about 19-20lbs. Luke has started eating some solids mostly oatmeal. We have fun introducing to new foods with just a little "taste." The faces he makes are hillarious!

Here are some of Luke's favorite things at 5 months:

Luke loves loves loves this little puppy (thanks Mike, Jen, & boys). When we lay him down to sleep, it's not complete if the puppy isn't in his arms. Plus, I think he loves how soft and easy it is to stick it in his mouth.

This face cracks me up. He loves to suck on his bottom lip. The funny thing is Matt does it too!

Luke loves his little jumper. He has finally figured out how to jump in it longer than 2 seconds. Luke loves to talk while he's jumping.

Not only can I prop myself up on my arms, I can roll over too! I love to do it at 4am and scream at the top of my lungs because I haven't figured out how to roll over yet. (Plus, it's fun to get Mommy and Daddy out of bed at that time!)

I just wanted to take a moment and honor all of those women who have been a part of our lives who have influenced us in many ways. I know that some people feel that they have to be a mother in a literal sense in order to be honored on this Mother's Day, but I disagree. To me, mother is a woman who has provided love, friendship, support, and guidance in our lives. This includes friends, sisters (in-law or biological), aunts, young women leaders (Thank you Sister Hansen!), other church leaders, and of course our moms. We would not be the people we are today without your love, support, friendship, and of course guidance! Thank you for being the amazing women you are and the light you are to us!

Iron Girl

Saturday was my Iron Girl 5k race. I've been looking forward to this race since I was pregnant. I could hardly wait to feel the ground giving way under my feet and the wind through my hair. The cool thing about this race is it's all about empowering and honoring women while trying to raise money and awareness for cancer research. I was even more excited when I discovered that this race would be on Saturday instead of it's usual Sunday .
There was so much excitement in the air as 3,000 women gathered together to run/walk either the 5k or 10k .Our race started at the race track at Del Mar Fair Ground (for those who don't know. We have horse races there.) We ran down near the beach and finished at the finish line at the race track. I wouldn't say it was the easiest race I've run, but it was the most rewarding and surreal. I kept smiling and pinching myself saying "is this real? I can't believe I'm finally doing this!" My favorite part was not the flowers or medal I received (all finishers received this), but was having Matt and Luke there cheering me on. Perfection!

4 months!

Wow! Time has sure passed quickly! We can hardly believe that our lil' man is 4 months already. He has changed so much in such a short period of time. Luke now weighs 18 lbs. (Can you believe it?)

He loves to coo, talk, smile, kick his lil' legs, and jump around. Luke still loves to cuddle (melts my heart.) He has just discovered how to blow bubbles.

Sometimes it's a combination of a bubbles/drool. Luke is not a pacifer fan. He preferes to suck on his index and thumb.

I think he's going to be a leftie. He typically favors that hand when he's reaching for things. Luke's trying to figure out the whole rolling thing. He typically rolls from side to side, but hasn't figured out how to get onto his stomach yet. Luke loves to scoot around the floor laying on his back by pushing with his legs. Matt has been introducing him to different food. So far he loves Watermelon!

Bath time is one of Luke's favorite rituals. He is funny to watch during bath time. He likes to kick his legs and wiggle his body from side to side like a snake. We were having fun one night with bubbles. I don't think he was as amused as we were.

Saturday we thought it would be fun to go explore the Scripps Aquarium. It was fun to see all the different types of sea life and admire the beauty of the world around us. Luke especially loved the jellyfish. He would giggle and try and grab them. Fortunately, there was glass to protect his lil' hands.

Food Adventures Part 2

So we tried some more interesting restaurants. We had never tried Moroccan food, so we thought, "why not?" The decor was beautiful and comfortable with all the pillows. We had this custard for dessert that was heavenly, but the rest was OK. Still a fun adventure.

We next tried a fusion resturant. It's pretty interesting because they "fuse" different food styles into one. For example, I had a mexican ravoli that was amazing. Our dishes were so artistic it felt criminal to eat it. All I can say is YUMMY!

2-3 months

It's been awhile since I've posted about Luke and his stats. Since he's almost 3 months (in 1 week), I thought it would just make more sense for my sanity to write a 2-3 month post.

He had his 2 month appointment 2 weeks ago. We were surprised by his stats. He now weighs 15 lbs. 15lbs! No wonder why my arms are so sore! He's 24 inches long. Everyday he becomes more and more interactive. He loves to talk especially when he is on his play mat. He has this bear that sings and the nose lights up that he loves to cue and talk to. (I'll post the video when I get another second.) He's getting quite strong that he can hold his head up with it hardly bobbing. We are thinking that it is about time to get a jumper for him because he loves to use his legs. He will lay on his back on his play mat kicking his lil' legs like he's running. He's quite funny! Well, running is in his genes (He must trying to keep up with his Papa Edgeworth and mommie.) He's figuring out his hands and starting grasp the rings on his play mat. My favorite part is his smiles and cooing when he wakes up in the morning. It's fun to see his personality start to come out as he gets older.

When Malinda, Matt's sister, comes to visit, it's an adventure involving great food and shopping. We tried this new restaurant called the Hash House for brunch (it took me a bit to get moving that morning.) We heard that the place is always busy with a line, but the food is to die for! The rumors were true! The food was fabulous! The portion sizes were huge! We weren't hungry until dinner!

Yup, sadly my maternity came to it's close (rather too quickly might I add.) My first couple of shifts back I had to arrange daycare for Luke. Starting next week, Matt will be home with Luke while I'm working the evenings. I have enjoyed seeing my co-workers and showing off my cute pictures of Luke, but I sure really miss him!

Mission Bay

Yesterday I decided that Luke and I needed to have a little adventure so we went to one of my favorite places in San Deigo . . . Mission Bay (it holds a special place in my heart since that was where Matt proposed to me.) Luke and I stretched our legs and enjoyed the wind blowing in our hair as we raced along the running trail along the bay. It was fun to share one my favorite places with Luke.

Mommy is really tired, so I thought I would write this post for her since it's all about me anyways! I turned 1 month old today. Mommy and I celebrated by going running at the beach today. I know how much mommy loves the beach and I can't wait to spend all summer there.

I'm becoming quite a big boy! I know weigh more than 9 lbs and grew 2 inches since I was born. I'm hungry all the time. Watch your hands when it's time to eat. I almost bite off mommy's and daddy's hands during feeding time. I've discovered my legs. I love to stand on mommy's tummy and jump. It is so much fun! I can hold my head up for 2 minutes while checking the cool world around me.

But my ultimate favorite thing is to CUDDLE! I love to lay on Mommy's and daddy's (and even Nana Edgeworth's when she came to visit) chest and cuddle up under their necks and fall asleep. Here's a picture to prove. (Mommy is great, but this picture shows that Mommy needs to get some more sleep. What do you think?)

This week Matt and I celebrated our 5Th anniversary. We thought we would keep it simple and easy especially with having a newborn. We originally wanted to go have Slurpee's and hang out at the beach (that's for you- Jeremy and Valerie), but the rain changed our plans. So we opted for a Star Wars marathon and pizza.
I can't imagine another person that I would rather spend my time with than with Matt. He builds me up, loves me unconditionally, and makes me a better person. To another 5 years + eternity!

When my mom came out to visit, we moved Luke into our room so she could get some sleep. We didn't have a bassinett because 1. we don't have the room in our tiny apartment and 2. we are cheap! We made a makeshift basinett from a laundry basket with a pillow and blankets. To our amazement, Luke loves it! He prefers to sleep in the laundry basket than the crib!

Tuesday was not Matt's day. After a long bad day at work he was cuddling with Luke, when he exclaimed, "I think I was baptised with yellow fired!" Luke had peed through his diaper and onesie and got Matt.

Later that night Matt was changing his diaper when I heard a loud shriek. I came rushing expecting to find Luke had fallen or something serious. It turned out that Luke had a forceful bowel movement while he was having his diaper changed. It squirted 3 feet from his changing table and fell short of hitting my mom, but got Matt in the process. Poor guy, he refused to change Luke's diaper the rest of the night.

Luke's Story

So Tuesday night (December 29Th), I finally started to pack my labor bag right before going to bed. I got tired of it and thought, "I have 12 more days to do this," so off to bed I went. As I was getting into bed, Matt leaned over and placed his hand on my belly. He told me that he thought I was contracting. I brushed him off and got out of bed to use the bathroom (curses of pregnancy . . . shrinking bladder.)

I was getting ready to get back in bed when I looked at Matt and said, "I just pee ed my pants!" Matt disagreed and thought that my water broke. All the information that I had read about having your water break talks about it fluid smelling sweet (which this definitely did not) and would have a pinkish tint (which I didn't have.) I called the L&D triage nurse for my hospital to ask what I should do. I wasn't having any contractions and I had an appointment with my nurse practitioner in the morning. She told me to put on a pad and if I continued to have any more fluid to call her back right away. Well, after 5 minutes my pad was soaked with more fluid to follow! I called the nurse back and she told me to come in. I was thinking "Crap! I have to finish packing that labor bag!"

So off to the hospital we went. We had to go to the ER since the hospital doors were locked and they ran me up stairs to L&D as fast as possible (never mind that I wasn't having any contractions yet.) After I got checked in, the midwife check me out and told me that I was dilated at a 1-2cm and that since my blood pressure was high I could get an epidural as soon as my blood work came back (which was 2 hours later.)

In the meantime, my contractions started to become more regular and more painful as time went on. I begged to have something to tie me over until I could get my epidural. I was given Morphine which did absolutely nothing. The only thing that made me feel better during my contractions was to be up walking when I had them, but since my blood pressure was I high I had to stay in bed.

I finally got my epidural (Horrah!) The nurse was telling me that she thought I would be delivering in the morning to try and get some rest (this was at 3 am.) Well, I tried and I tried, but I couldn't. Either it was the epidural or labor, but I was shaking intensely and couldn't stop. So I watched movies and talked to Matt's MD sister Malinda to pass the time.

They started me on pitosin at 6am because my epidural made my contractions irregular. They decided to check me and found out that I was dilated at an 8. They told me to let them know right away when I felt the urge to push. Not even an hour later, I was ready to push. They checked me again and I was dilated at a 10 rearing to go. After 40 minutes of intense tiring pushing, out came Luke!

It was quite the day! I thought that since this was my first baby that I was going to be late (nope), have a 20+ labor (nope), be unable to push and have a c-section (nope again.) Either way, we are just glad to be home with our little boy!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! We hope that you had a great day and were able to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas Eve Matt and I spent it with our good friends Karen and Bob. We enjoyed yummy food and great conversation. We came home and opened my Christmas pajamas (Matt's family tradition.) Camo maternity pants.

He's so funny! Then we had our Christmas devotion (my family tradition.)

Christmas day we opened our gifts, enjoyed some cranberry orange scones (in memory of Alyssa) and had oyster stew for dinner. Matt's family tradition is to have oyster stew Christmas Eve, but Bob's not a fan of seafood so we figured it would be an easy non fuss Christmas dinner. We can hardly wait to share next Christmas with our little one!

When Matt was little, he loved his play dough. His dad threw out because it got in the carpet (which he is still sad about till this day.) I promised him that even if he gets it in the carpet that I won't throw it away. Doesn't he look excited about his new play dough?

Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas if Matt didn't get another gun!

Baby Shower Part 2

While my mom was out visiting Kyle, Amanda, and Remi, my friend Sharon threw me a small shower. The best part of the shower was being able to share it with friends and especially family. My mom drove down with Mike, Jen, and the boys to come. It sure meant the world to me that they would come all that way for the shower. It sure was a great day!

Another health scare

Today I went to my doctor for a routine appointment. I was telling the doctor that my right hand swelled up drastically 2 days ago and was seeing spots. He became concerned since my blood pressure was elevated (in the 150's.) So he sent me to the hospital to be monitored at the L&D department.
So off to the hospital Matt and I went. For an hour, they monitored my blood pressure and the fetal heart monitor. It turns out that my labs and blood pressure were all normal. Our little one is extremely healthy (thank heavens!) I'm 80% effaced, 1cm dilated, and our little one is head down right now.
At one point, the nurse looked at me during the exam and asked, "Do you have any pain right now?" I told her that I was experiencing some discomfort every once in a while, but it wasn't intolerable. She told that that I was contracting. She showed me my strip and sure enough I was.
So as of today, I'm officially on Maternity leave. Thank heavens cause I'm exhausted! I need to get all the sleep I can get before our little one arrives.

Balboa Park

My dad was in town teaching a seminar in San Diego. Thursday night we were able to take my dad on the town. After some great Mexican food, we took him to Balboa Park. During the Christmas time, they decorate the whole park with amazing lights. In front of one of the theater's is devoted to Dr. Seuss. He was actually a resident of San Diego. Every Christmas, they put on the Grinch and they decorate in front of the theater in true Dr. Seuss style. Check out the tree!

The coolest part is the Nativity scene. It actually is a set of booths that are devoted to Christ's birth.

Overall, a great night. We were glad we could share it with my dad.

Home Stretch!

It's crazy to think in about a month or so (probably more than a month) our little one is going to arrive. It's been a whirlwind of emotions as Matt and I finish out this year. I'm finally in the uncomfortable stage of my pregnancy. Depending upon my position, our little one likes to let me know if he has enough room or not. The swelling to my hands and feet are getting more and more every day. (I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring for the past 2 months!) After Matt finishes his semester in 2 weeks, we are going to start setting up the nursery (we've held off because we were hoping to hear back about the homes we placed offers on.) It seems like at night I have a hard time turning off my mind. The worries have begun. Will we be good parents? What will he be like? (I'm hoping he'll be more like Matt- laid back, go with the flow rather than like me- obessive worrier.) Will I be able to manage being a mom, wife, nurse, and student? And the worries continue, but I know that the Lord will bless and help us.

Last Saturday, my co-workers from the ER (yup, the one I just quit) threw Matt and I a baby shower. It was so much fun to see all my old co-workers and celebrate our little one's arrival.

Erin, our good friend, gave us a nice surprise. She and Alyssa bought material for a baby blanket for us before she died ( I was pregnant and miscarried right before she passed away.) You can imagine how touched and suprised we were to hear that. This is just a portion of it since she's currently working on it. Isn't it adorable?

Overall, it was a great fun night! Thanks Christina and George for throwing us a shower!
